Dr. Jayanti Patel left his home for the Theatre. In 'Rangmandal' of Ahmedabad, he learnt Drama through do it your workshop. He used stage twelve plays, a year on an annual subscription of Rs. Four only, repeat Rs. Four. When he came to Bombay, in those days, two organizations were at the top. 'Rangbhoomi' and I.N.T (Indian National Theatre).

He used to stage shows not for classes or masses but for complimentary passes. A play called 'Rangilo Raja' clicked. For the first time the complimentary pass addicts formed a queue to buy tickets for the show. Performance wise Jayanti has many plays to his credit. He has written four plays. He was awarded a Gold Medal for acting in 'Rangilo Raja' and was also given the best prize for the play 'Harvey' which he has translated in his language and in which he played Elwood P. Dow. 

He got a scholarship for directing and acting in 'Of Mice and Men' by John Steinbeck.
