Characterizing Elwood P. Dowd
in Mary Chase’s ‘Harvey’ brought me a gold medal from the State
Government.
An adaptation of “Of Mice and Men”
received my directorial handling and I also acted and brought a life
Lenny on stage.
Way back in 1950 commenced a new way of
theatre comedy from whence the audience formed the queue habit for
buying seats. The reason: A farcical comedy called ‘Rangilo Raja’
which had me in the lead and had a run for three years non-stop. The
consequence: today the producer stands in a queue to book a city
theatre.
I revived ‘Bhavai’ – the Gujarati Folk
Drama of India and wrote a play and revue with its feel. The play “Neta-Abhineta”
drew a comparison between the politician and the film star. The
audience was enthralled when it realized that on stage truth is the
greatest joke.
