The name ‘Ranglo’ is a character taken from the Gujarati Folk theatre of ‘Bhavai’. ‘Bhavai’ is a very ancient folk theatre, where the man used to talk about his process of life, express through emotions before the Goddess ‘Umiya mata’ which is the ‘Kul Devi’ of a particular community of Gujarat.Dr. Jayanti Patel has used this ‘Ranglo’ on stage, radio, television, through the cartoons and write-ups with humour about the sadness of the world – ‘Maya’.

He has communicated and enjoyed doing it for himself by playing as an actor, translator of western plays, director and creating his own institution called ‘Swaroop’ and creating modern theatre based on ‘Bhavai’ called ‘Thai-Thai’ theatre.

Dr. Jayanti Patel revived ‘Bhavai’ – the Gujarati Folk Drama of India and wrote a play and revue with its feel. The play 'Neta-Abhineta' drew a comparison between the politician and the film star. The audience was enthralled when it realized that on stage truth is the greatest joke.

The revue which had the privilege of being first of its type on stage was called “Plus-plus-plus ends in minus”. The purpose was to bring life into theatre and the theatre to life.
